DIY Easy Roman Shade!

This month we are showcasing our heavy cotton twill! This fabric is one of our most durable fabrics and is perfect for your home decor project. Follow along below to see how we created these easy pressure rod roman shades!

Supplies:

  • Fabric (You will need enough to cover your window plus 1-inch seam allowances all around)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Needle
  • Marking Pen
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • 4 Pressure Rods (size depends on your window width)
  • Iron

Step 1: Cutting Fabric

You will first cut 2 pattern pieces the size of your window plus your seam allowance. Our window was 70″ x 29″ So we ordered 2 yards using all 72″ for the length and cutting the width at 31″.

Step 2: Prepping Mitered Corners

For the bottom hem, you will want mitered corners to do this you will follow the infographic below.

Step 3: Prepping seam allowances

Now you will then fold the sides and bottom hem over 1/2″ two times, press and pin in place on both pattern pieces.

Step 4: Sewing

Now you will sew both long sides and bottom hem at 3/8″ on both pattern pieces leaving the top. Next, you will pin together both pattern pieces with right sides together at the top and sew at 1″.

Press seam open.

Now your shade is done and ready to be hung! See below on how to properly drape your roman shade!
