Satin Eye Mask!
This month for our fat quarter Tuesday project we were inspired by our new satin fabric! We decided to make a luxurious eye mask! 😴👀 Follow along below to learn how to make your own, we even supplied an Eye Mask Pattern!
Supplies:
- Eye Mask Pattern
- Tape
- Batting
- Satin fabric
- Sewing machine
- Elastic 1/4” wide
- Scissors
- Pins
- Safety pin
- Cording for piping (Optional)
- Zipper Foot (Optional)
Step 1: Cutting Fabric
First you will need to print out the Eye Mask Pattern and tape together the strap pieces. Next you will cut out each pattern piece from your fabric and one eye mask pattern piece from your batting. If you choose to do custom piping you will then cut a 2-inch-wide strip of fabric long enough to wrap around the entire eye mask pattern piece, about 25 inches.
Step 2: Create Piping
If you plan to make your own piping, follow along with the instructions in the diagram below.
Step 3: Batting
Next you will then baste your batting to the wrong side of your remaining eye mask pattern piece.
Step 4: Strap
Now you will take your strap pattern piece and fold it in half long wise with right sides together and pin and press. Sew along the long raw edge at a ¼” seam allowance. Once sewn you will take your safety pin and attach it at one of the open ends and feed it through to the other end to turn it right side out. Then take the safety pin again and attach it to your elastic and feed it through your strap.
Now you will baste the ends of your strap on either side of the eye mask in the center of the notches.
Step 5: Sewing Eye Mask
Next you will place both eye mask pattern pieces right sides together with the strap sandwiched in between and pin together. You will now sew at 3/8” seam allowances all the way around leaving a 1.5” opening. Trim the seam allowance down and clip curves.
Then turn the pattern right side out and press. Now slip stitch the opening closed, and you have yourself a satin eye mask. These are easy to make and are wonderful presents or even make a batch for your next slumber party!
