Today we will be showing you how we made this cute ear warmer using our Polyester Velour! We chose our Polyester Velour for its thickness and soft looped side for extra coziness! Follow along below to learn to make your very own!
- Sewing Machine
- Marking Pen
- Tape measure
Step 1: Cutting the Fabric
You will start by cutting 2 rectangles out that are 4.5” and the length around your head. Take your measuring tape and measure the circumference of your head. If the fabric has give to it use the exact measurement if it is a woven with no give add 1” to the measurement. Our polyester has stretch so we used the exact measurement of 22”. Make sure the most stretch goes in the length not the width of the fabric when cutting out pattern pieces pieces.
Step 2: Preparing the Fabric
We just love the soft texture on the backside of our Polyester Velour fabric and wanted to have that be on the inside of the ear warmer. So instead of sewing as usual with right sides together we pinned the pattern pieces with one right side together and one wrong side.
Step 3: Sewing
Once your pattern pieces are pinned you will sew at ½” seam allowances down the long sides of the patterns leaving 2” on one side at the start and finish. Now you will pin around the short ends and sew them together.
This will leave you with an opening along the bottom of the ear warmer to turn it right side out.
Once its turned right side out press the opening inward and pin closed. Finally, you will topstitch the top and bottom of the ear warmer at ¼” seam allowance!
You are all done! Sew easy and great little sewing project for your fat quarters!
