DIY Table Runner!

Add the perfect touch to your Thanksgiving table with a complete custom table runner! It is sew easy and only takes one yard of fabric. Follow along with our tutorial below on how to make your very own table runner! 🍂🍽

Supplies:

  • 1 Yard of Fabric
  • Sewing Machine
  • Iron
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Hook and Eyes (optional)
  • Seam Gauge

Step 1: Preparing fabric

We had this great Fall Feathers design by ErinAnne printed on our new linen cotton blend! Then we simply cut the fabric in half long ways giving us two 18” x 50” rectangles.

Step 2: Attaching Pattern Pieces

Now you will line up 2 of the short ends with right sides together insuring that the design is facing the same way and pin. You will then sew at 1/2″ seam allowance.

Step 3: Finishing the edges

Next we folded over each edge ½” and pressed. We then folded each edge again at ½” pressed and pinned. Once all edges were pinned we sewed a ¼” seam allowance all the way around. If you are wanting a simple squared off table runner then you are done, sew simple!

Step 4: Creating Convertible Ends! (Optional)

Now if you are wanting to add a little more style to your table runner you can create a pointed end. However, we took it one step even further and made it convertible. So that you can go from square ends to pointed ends!

To do this we first took each corner and folded it inwards creating a perfect pointed end and pressed. We then added hook and eyes to each corner to keep the corners together. We then placed a hook and eye on the bottom of the corner attachment and in the center of the table runner where the corners meet.

Voila, now the corners are a pointed design that can easily be converted back to the flat end with 2 easy clips!
