Ever burn your fingers pulling out your bowls from the microwave? Well with this handy tutorial that will no longer be an issue! These hot pads are a must have for the home and make fantastic gifts. Follow along below and make your own for your kitchen! 🍜
- Two 10” Squares of desired fabric
- 2 10”+ Squares of Batting
- Sewing Machine
- Marking utensil
Step 1: Sewing batting
First you will pin your batting to the back side of each fabric piece. Then you will then sew a large X from corner to corner on each pinned piece. Once sewn trim away any excess batting around edges.
Step 2: Forming Bowl Shape
Now you will fold your fabric in half with right sides together. From here you will mark each corner 2” down on folded edge and one inch over on raw edge and connect the marks. Then sew along the line you just drew. Next you will fold your fabric the other way and repeat for both pattern pieces. Once all corners are sewn you will trim the excess fabric leaving a ¼” seam allowance.
Step 3: Sewing Pieces Together
Now you will place one bowl piece inside the other with right sides together and pin. Then sew at ¼” seam allowances all around the edges leaving a 2” opening in one side.
Step 4: Finishing
Now you can flip the hot pad right side out and press. Fold the open edges in at ¼” and pin.
Then close the opened end by top stitching around entire edge! All done now you can heat up any left overs or soups without the worry of burning your fingers and it’s sew easy! 😊😊
