Back To School Book Covers!
It’s that time of year again, time for back to school! Textbooks can get expensive, so why not make your own book covers to keep them in tip top shape! Create your own custom fabric with our creator tool to keep all your subjects straight! Once your fabric is created and sent to your door follow along with our tutorial below to learn to sew it up! 📚📘
Supplies:
- Fabric (4 way stretch*)
- Sewing Machine
- Thread
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Marking Utensil
- Pins
*A 4-way stretch fabric is recommended so that your book cover can stretch over any size textbook and be used year after year. We recommend using our Modern Jersey or Interlock Blend. If using a less stretchy fabric be sure to measure your book along the entire cover while open flat.
Step One: Preparing the Fabric
First you will need to cut out your fabric. Measure out a rectangle that is 22” x 10” and cut out. Then you will finish the edges of the fabric. You can use a serger to do this or simply edge stitch using a zigzag stitch.
Step Two: Sewing the Fabric
Now that you have your fabric ready to go, you will need to fold up each of the short ends inward toward the center of the fabric 4” with right sides together. You will pin them in place and using a zigzag stitch sew each end on both sides at ½” seam allowance.
Clip your threads and turn your fabric right side out and you are all done! It is really that easy!
When creating this fun book cover we used our Interlock blend fabric. This fabric has a 46” print area and is 94% cotton and 6% spandex. This fabric is perfect for activewear, dresses, lightweight jackets and more. Love the design we chose? We used this super fun Grapefruit On Turquoise print by ErinAnne.
