This month we are celebrating National Sewing Month with a fun blouse from start to finish! We started from square one and designed our own custom fabric. We then combined two sewing patterns, created a muslin and last but not least created an adorable fun linen blouse! We will have three posts with each stage of our process each week! Be sure to check back so you can follow along 🙂
For our first post we will show you how we created this fun paisley design which can be found on myfabricdesigns.com!
First step was brainstorming and creating a color scheme. We decided we wanted a fun pattern that had varying shades of pinks, greens, browns and whites. The next job was to decide on what sort of print we wanted. After much debate and back and forth we landed on paisley! For inspiration we collected many color swatches, examples of paisley prints and designs to create an inspiration board.
Next we began to sketch. The first few sketches where not what we were looking for. Finally we got the design elements just the way we wanted it. We then drew it out and added the colors we wanted.
We then uploaded the image onto our computer and cropped and saved each design element as a separate image. Once we had all of our design pieces in a PNG file format, we uploaded each one onto our fabric pattern creator and arranged them until we got just the right design.
We chose the size and background color using our color matrix and had the design printed on our Faux Linen Slub. The colors and design came out just the way we envisioned and we had the perfect fabric to inspire what pattern to create!
